Geology in China is a comprehensive geological academic journal sponsored by China Geological Survey (CGS). Geology in China has undergone some changes after been established in 1953. In the early years, the journal was monthly published, for the purpose of publishing policy formulation, strategic deployment, and achievement of regional geological survey about geology in China. Since 2002, the journal was published quarterly; meanwhile, the nature of Geology in China was positioned as an authoritative academic journal, the editorial orientation was adjusted to delivering science and technology researches, outcomes of geological survey in China. In 2006, in order to speed up the efficiency of publication, the journal was changed from quarterly to bimonthly. Meanwhile, the quality and quantity of published articles in Geology in China has been dramatically improved.  In 2013, Geology in China carried on the transition of the editorial board, the new board take through the journal’s constitution, which means Geology in China move towards a prosperous future.

The journal is featured by the basic, public-welfare, academic and regional natures and devoted to reflecting state- and high-level academic research results, with the focus on the results of innovative, frontier, comprehensive and guiding research related to large-scale geological surveys and state-level key scientific and technological projects. The content of the journal concerns the results of research on fundamental geology (including stratigraphy, paleontology, structural geology and tectonics, petrology, mineralogy, regional geology etc.), geology of mineral deposits, energy geology, marine geology, hydrogeology, environmental geology (including ecological geology and hazard geology), remote sensing geology, geophysics, geochemistry and geological information.

With its amount of distribution, Geology in China ranking first among Chinese geological academic journals, it enjoys immense popular support of geological workers.
