Distribution characteristics, deposit types and development status of feldspar ore in China

    • This paper is the result of mineral exploration engineering.
Objective Feldspar minerals are the most abundant minerals in earth’s crust. Potassic feldspar and albia-feldspar are the main minerals widely used in industry, among which potassic feldspar is widely used in glass and ceramic industries. Chinese feldspar mineral deposits are widely distributed and rich in resources. Therefore, it is of great significance to summarize the resource distribution, mineral deposit types, and development status of the Chinese feldspar industry.
Methods This paper collected the published data and related literature at home and abroad, sorted out the resource distribution of Chinese feldspar ore deposits, summarized the types and causes of Chinese feldspar ore deposits, and prospected its development and utilization prospects.
Results The reserves of feldspar resources in China have reached 684.286 million tons, and the resources are very rich, among which Ahui province has the largest reserves. The feldspar deposits are mainly distributed in Jiangxi, Fujian, Shandong, and Shanxi. The mineral deposits are mainly pegmatite type, magmatic type, sedimentary type and weathered porphyritic granite type. Pegmatite type and magmatic type are the main mineral deposits in feldspar mining. Feldspar mineral resources are mainly used in glass and ceramics industries.
Conclusions Sedimentary and weathered porphyritic granite feldspar deposits are newly discovered, and quickly widely recognized by the market because of their characteristics such as easy mining, large scale and good ore quality. China's abundant feldspar resources primarily cater to its massive glass and ceramic industries. Efficient utilization paradigms have been established for different deposit types, such as pegmatitic and weathered granite. Looking ahead, while meeting growing demand, the sector faces challenges in optimizing the resource structure and addressing the relative scarcity of high-quality potassium feldspar.
