Methods of regional geological map production based on GIS

Abstract：Based on the application of GIS (Geographic Information System) and in small-scale regional geological map production, combined with the production of the Geological Map Series of Central Asia and Adjacent Areas, the paper expounds the methods of digital geological map production based on the GIS softwares such as Arcinfo and Mapgis and introduces the compilation of geographical and geological spatial data, including map-making generalization, attribute database production and code design of various elements, as well as supplements of new materials. According to different data sources, different technical lines and map production methods are lain down. The data from the data sources of different countries are converted into the unifying data format and projection coordinates system by data conversion, projection conversion and error correction. A concrete analysis has been made of the methods of regional geological map production based on the GIS and data sources.
